Here is a selection of the properties we have had over the years. It is not exhaustive but shows the breadth and depth of the Group’s abilities today and over the past 30+ years.
Our proposals for King Street, Sheffield, which would be Yorkshire tallest building, include 1,100 co-living homes complementing the 500 in Kings Tower adjacent, with extensive amenities, gym, sky lounge, co-working, retail, bars and restaurants and a large investment in the public realm.
CJS064 – Abito, Greengate, Salford
Abito is a large mixed-use office and residential development completed by ASK Real Estate in 2007. In 2022 we acquired the office element for refurbishment and letting as managed workspace and it is held in our long-term investment portfolio.
CJS068 – Quarry Lane, Matlock, Derbyshire
Quarry Lane is a 6-acre parcel acquired in 2022 for our strategic land portfolio. Situated immediately adjacent to a large new build housing estate the site is being held for the long term.
CJS069 – King Street, Sheffield
King Street, Sheffield, is a mixed-use student and retail investment acquired in 2022 and includes almost all the buildings on the north side of the street. It is to be redeveloped into our third Oppidan Life co-living, retail, and leisure tower with 360 apartments and 10,000sq ft of commercial.
CJS072 – 6 Oxford Court, Manchester
6 Oxford Court is part of a courtyard of office buildings adjacent to St Peter’s Square. It has been upgraded, refurbished, and let and retained in the long-term investment portfolio.
CJS052 – 3 Oxford Court, Manchester
3 Oxford Court is part of a courtyard of office buildings adjacent to St Peter’s Square in Manchester city centre and was acquired in 2018 as our Manchester HQ.
CJS054 – No1 Chepstow Street, Manchester
No 1 Chepstow Street, at the junction with Portland St and Oxford St in Manchester city centre was acquired in 2019 for redevelopment for commercial and residential uses. It contains the busiest branch of McDonalds in the city and the upper floors are to be repurposed and retained as a long-term investment.
CJS057 – Cuerden Hall, Cuerden, Preston, Lancashire
Cuerden Hall is a nationally important Grade II* listed stately home built in 1717 on the site of an older house and enlarged in 1818 by the architect Lewis Wyatt who also worked on Tatton Hall and Lyme Park. Acquired in 2020, the 75,000sq ft house sits in 17 acres of gardens and a 650-acre park which is run by the Cuerden Valley Park Trust. The house is being painstakingly restored to its original condition and use.
CJS061 – Kings Tower, Sheffield
Kings Tower was granted full planning consent in 2024. It is a 42 storey co-living building of almost 500 apartments at High Street in Sheffield city centre. Designed by Stirling Prize winning architect, Stephen Hodder MBE, it is our second co-living scheme under our Oppidan Life brand. It is one of the largest and most important planning approvals for co-living in the country.
CJS042 – Liverpool Road, Salford
333 Liverpool Road, opposite our adjacent scheme at 402, was a famous nightclub called The Talk of The North which was redeveloped in 2005 as apartments.
CJS044 – 40 Chorlton Street, Manchester
40 Chorlton Street was the home of the ground-breaking Mash & Air restaurant and bars which opened in this building on the corner of Canal Street in 2000. We acquired it in 2006 and it is now the Leven aparthotel and Maya restaurants and bars.
CJS047 – 23-37 Edge Street, Northern Quarter, Manchester
23-37 Edge Street was originally acquired in 2014 as the first branch of our award winning Ziferblat pay-per-minute work and social spaces. It is now an Oppidan Work managed office building.
CJS049 – Swan Street, Manchester
1-5 Swan Street was acquired in 2018, vacant and dilapidated, at what was then the edge of the Northern Quarter and before Ancoats blossomed. It became not only our first Oppidan Life co-living building but the first one in Manchester and one of the first in the country. The ground floor was home to the award-winning cocktail bar Mecanica and is now The Wayfarer.
CJS029 – 52 Princess Street, Manchester
52 Princess Street, then Rhodesia House, was refurbished and let as offices in 1996.
CJS032 – 42 Princess Street, Manchester
42 Princess Street was converted from offices to residential in 1996 one of the first such developments in the city.
CJS038 – 2-6 Booth Street, Manchester
2-6 Booth Street was acquired in 1998. Formerly the home of the famous Isola Bella restaurant, it was a group of three listed buildings around a small courtyard. We redeveloped it into 16 large apartments, one of the first city centre residential schemes in 1998.
CJS040 – Liverpool Road, Salford
402-412 Liverpool Road was acquired as a retail investment in 2003 and redeveloped into new build apartments with parking and sold in 2006.
CJS016 – 8-10 Booth Street, Manchester
8-10 Booth Street, then the headquarters of Hill Samuel Bank, was acquired in 1994 as an office investment. It is now the King Street Townhouse Hotel.
CJS020 – Pullman Court, Streatham Hill, London SW2
Pullman Court is a classic art deco building comprising 235 apartments which was acquired in 1994 and held in our long term investment portfolio.
CJS022 – Osmaston Retail Park, Derby
Osmaston was acquired in 1994 as a retail warehouse investment occupied by WHSmith Do It All. They subsequently vacated and the property was sold to Dunelm Mill.
CJS026 – 43- 45 Spring Gardens, Manchester
43-45 Spring Gardens was the Manchester head office of Barclays bank before they moved to York Street. The ground floor has been a variety of restaurants, most recently Rosso and now Cibo. The upper floors were Shenton Group’s head office from 1995 until the building was sold in 2000 and it is now the St James’s Club.
28-30 Canal Street had lain empty for many years before it was acquired in 1992 when Boddingtons Brewery created the Via Fossa bar, which remains, and the upper floors were converted to residential for the Tung Sing Housing Association, which is also still there, in another pioneering city centre residential development.
CJS008 – 42-44 Sackville Street, Manchester
42-44 Sackville Street, on the corner of Canal Street, was sold in 1989 for conversion to 29 apartments which were completed in 1995 and became one of the founding developments of the Canal Street area.
CJS007 – St George’s House, Peter Street, Manchester
St George’s was our first large scheme in Manchester. Acquired as the YMCA in 1989, the Grade II listed building with a terracotta copy of a very famous statue of St George by Donatello in the façade, it was redeveloped by 1992 as 65,000sq ft GIA of offices, retail, and parking.

CJS074 – Chatham Mill, Chester Street, Manchester
Chatham Mill was acquired in 2023 and comprises 72,000sq ft of offices in four buildings around a courtyard comprising 52 parking spaces near Circle Square. One of the last and most original mill clusters remaining in the city centre, the Grade II listed group of buildings is to be restored, retained, and let for commercial uses.
CJS078 – Quebec Buildings, Bury Street, Salford
Quebec Buildings is a large mixed-use residential and commercial development in the Greengate area, 500m from Selfridges and Harvey Nichols. We acquired the commercial element of offices in 2023, our second building in the area, refurbished and let it. It remains in our long-term investment portfolio.
CJS080 – Pearl House, Sheffield
Pearl House is a small student property in the centre of Sheffield. Acquired in 2024 it completes our site assembly for a 1,200-home redevelopment in the city centre.
CJS081 – North Promenade, Lytham St Anne’s
North Promenade was acquired in 2024 and completes a site acquisition process of 5 properties which started in 2004. The combined assets extend to an acre on the beachfront in Lytham St Anne’s and will be the Group’s first of many later living developments. 50, high value, luxury apartments with the amenities of a five star hotel will be built for sale and rent.
